"What are you going to do with this land?" Entebe – Airport security officers asked us before our flight to Milan. Our answer was, "We have to build a hospital." We wanted to study the soil today, which the walls of a new center for excellence in pediatric surgery in Uganda will be made of. In 2020, we're going to start taking care of the children who need us.
Walking through this building, we realized that there are two real pillars of this project: sustainability and humanity. This hospital is not only the result of careful architectural choices that respect nature and the environment, but is also a place that wants to talk to people, take care of them, and guide them beyond suffering.
Wood, soil, sky, water, color. On the shore of Lake Victoria, our hospital will have a large window and a corridor glowing with natural light.
Because we want to see the day, the night, the movement of clouds, and the embrace of nature that surrounds the building.
Excellence, futility, universality: Wherever we are, these are the main pillars of our work.
The hospital in Uganda confirmed this once again. It is as possible to build a hospital in Africa as in Italy and Europe. It is possible because it is the right of treatment that all human beings need.
Here in Uganda, the principles of architecture and medicine combine to create a single message: peace.
