(S.Korea=Yeonhap News) = The Sunhak Peace Prize Committee announced on Jan. 13, that the Timor-Leste government had donated $100,000 as a foundation-fund to the Sunhak Peace Prize, which will present its first award this year.
H.E. Kay Rala Xanana Gusmao, the Prime Minister of Timor-Leste, while attending the Sunhak Peace Prize Committee Inauguration Ceremony held in South Korea last year August, made the promise to the Committee, and the resolution was later unanimously approved by the Timor-Leste government at the Council of Ministers meeting held extraordinarily at the Government Palace in Timor-Leste this past December 19, 2014, which would contribute $100,000 to the Sunhak Peace Prize foundation fund.
The Committee pointed out that given the per capita GDP of Timor-Leste of $3,664 (by 2014 standards), a $100,000 donation is much more meaningful than its objective economic value.
The Sunhak Peace Prize is an international peace prize initiated by Mrs. Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon, maintaining the wishes of her husband, the late Rev. Sun Myung Moon, who devoted his life for the realization of a borderless, inter-racial, inter-religious, inter-national world peace, which will award $1 million in prize money to individuals and organizations that have contributed to the peace of the future generations and human welfare. The first award ceremony will be held on August 28, 2015 (Friday) at the Seoul Grand Intercontinental Hotel in South Korea.
