FIFA and Global Citizen Launch Advisory Board for $100 Million Education Initiative
FIFA and Global Citizen, the world’s largest movement dedicated to ending extreme poverty, today officially announced the formation of the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund Advisory Board, which will support a groundbreaking initiative to raise USD 100 million for global education and literacy.
The non-fiduciary advisory board includes Hugh Jackman, The Weeknd, Ivanka Trump, Gianni Infantino, Hugh Evans, Serena Williams, Shakira, Kaká, and Jim DeMare, Co-President of Bank of America. The members will provide strategic guidance to ensure that organizations dedicated to education and literacy achieve the greatest possible social impact.
Supporting Children Through Education, Literacy, and Football
First unveiled earlier this year at the Global Citizen NOW summit in New York, the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund aims to expand access to quality education, literacy, and football for children around the world.
Half of the funds raised will support basic education and literacy programs in more than 200 communities, while the remaining portion will go toward the Football for Schools (F4S) program—jointly operated by FIFA and UNESCO—to promote life skills, learning, and community development through football.
Over $30 Million Already Raised
At last month’s Global Citizen Festival, it was announced that the fund had already raised over USD 30 million. The contributions come from founding donors, proceeds from The Weeknd’s “After Hours Til Dawn” tour, and a portion of the revenue from the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup 2025.
It was also revealed that for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, USD 1 from every ticket sold will be automatically donated to the education fund.
